Max is a Lab mix, which means part Labrador Retriever and part not. There seem to be a lot of these around, which must attest to the social skills of the breed.

He seems happy to be here.
(Actually, Kenai had just told him a joke.*)
We had been talking about getting a cat for a while so we wandered over to the Humane Society to look around. Then we walked over to the pooch building and there was Max. His family had moved and, because Max howled when he was left alone all day, their new landlord said he couldn't stay.
We had a little meeting with Max and then gave him and Kenai a brief "Getting To Know You" sniff session. That's all it took. They (and we) are real buddies.
We still don't have a cat.

Max in a reflective (or sleepy?) mood.

He loves to fetch and he loves to swim.

He's a real cool guy!
*Oh yes. . .the joke.
A couple was vacationing in the U. S.
As they strolled down a New York City street, the wife said, "I've heard that Americans actually eat dogs."
"Odd," her husband replied, "but you know what they say, when in Rome, so. . . . ."
Nodding, the woman pointed to a hot dog stand across the street and they walked over.
"Two dogs, please," said the husband.
The vendor applied the requested trimmings and wrapped both hot dogs in foil.
The couple excitedly hurried to a bench to unwrap their 'dogs'.
The wife opened hers, stared for a moment, then whispered, "What part did you get?"
